Preventing hate crime: funding for community projects

Hate crimes are crimes that are motivated by hostility on the grounds of race (including colour, nationality and citizenship, religion, ethnicity and national origin), disability, sexual orientation and gender identity.

The aim of the fund is to work with affected communities to fund the development of innovative projects that:
prevent hate crime
respond to hate crime in our communities
increase the reporting of hate crime
improve support for the victims of hate crime
build our understanding of hate crime
The Home Office is seeking to fund projects at 2 levels of either £25,000 or £50,000. We have made £300,000 available to spend by 31 March 2017, with project delivery expected in June 2017.
We are looking for motivated and creative community groups or consortia to develop innovative programmes that help to prevent hate crime and issues associated with it. Your programme development must involve stakeholders who are affected by, or are past or potential perpetrators of hate crime.

A cause for celebration: extra £4.1 million available

by Big Lottery Fund

In early July the Big Lottery launched Celebrate, a funding programme offering communities the chance to hold one off events or activities which celebrate their local community.

We have been overwhelmed by the popularity of Celebrate. Since it launched the Big Lottery received over 1,300 applications across the UK already.

Due to the huge success we have allocated an extra £4.1 million of funding to give even more local communities the chance to come together and celebrate.

As we enter this final phase of funding; to build a spread of activity, we are going to be prioritising applications in England which will bring together different communities and generations, are people led and from schools and academies.

Each country is taking a slightly different approach to Celebrate, so please check our website for information relevant to the country you are in.

The type of projects we want to support might celebrate something from your local community’s history or a local hero. Or maybe it’s a chance to bring people together to get to know their neighbours better.

The final deadline for all completed Celebrate applications in all countries is noon, Friday 21 October 2016.

Good luck with your application!
