Government Launches New £2.5m Communities Fund
The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) is inviting bids to its new funding and support programme which will be delivered in two phases over the next two years.

The new £2.5 million Communities Fund is intended for community groups including neighbourhood associations, parish councils and charities to work closely with councils and deliver new services that help those with multiple needs in their communities.

Joint bids from local authorities/other service providers and community-led groups will be considered. The Government is keen to work with partnerships that can begin to implement quickly and be underway in 2016/17.

The funding will be targeted depending on local pressures, and could be used to help those facing domestic abuse, to provide support for disabled children’s services or to support those facing long-term unemployment. Bids should be for new projects or to extend an existing project into another area but not to prop up an existing approach. The funding can be used for upfront costs and to monitor implementation.

There is a total budget of £2.5 million which will be divided as follows:

£2 million for 2016-2017
£0.5 million for 2017-2018.
The Fund will provide the following support:

Grants of up to £70,000 (an indicative figure).
Access to a panel consisting of officials from the DCLG, external experts and Local Government representatives who will provide advice, challenge and an opportunity for different projects to exchange learning and network.
Opportunities for networking and shared learning across projects through events and online forums such as MyCommunity website.
Help and feedback with Cost Benefit Analysis tools.
Training on previous practice and advice on how to access other funding.
Opportunities to share the work with others.
Commenting on the launch, Communities Minister Andrew Percy said:

“Local grassroots community groups are best placed to understand the challenges in their local neighbourhoods and reaching those who need their help.

“I’d urge small groups to come forward and bid for this cash from today and they will also get expert advice from a network of other grassroot organisations.”

The deadline for completed bids is 16 January 2017.

Tennis is great fun for all, whether playing socially with friends or at an elite level. It truly is a sport that can be enjoyed regardless of age or ability. What is exciting and of particular interest to us, is that tennis is also highly accessible to disabled people.

At the Trust we specialise in creating opportunities and supporting disabled people who want to play tennis. Over the years we have helped hundreds of individuals, clubs and groups to access and provide tennis for disabled people. We do this by:

Providing specialist wheelchairs for individuals, clubs, special schools and centres running disability programmes.

Esmee Fairbairn: New focus on young people leaving care
Esmee Fairbairn is launching new funding for organisations working to ensure that care leavers are decision makers in the choices that affect their lives.

Spending over £2m a year for at least 5 years, they will support young people leaving care to sustain healthy relationships and to receive more consistent and high quality support from the state.
Informed by evidence from Social Finance’s Impact Incubator, their new funding stream welcomes applications which:
Ensure care leavers are more easily able to form healthy relationships that help them make a successful transition to adulthood
Ensure young people leaving care receive a consistently high standard of statutory support that has been informed by their views.
Funding is limited to the charitable work of organisations, and could be for core or project costs, including staff salaries and overheads. There are no limits on grant size or length. Most support is likely to be in the form of grants, but we would consider making social investments.

Local Charities Day

The Government has announced that Local Charities Day will take place on 16 December 2016. Local Charities Day will celebrate small, local charities and community groups

Eligibility
If you’re a charity, all you need to do is make sure that you have an active Localgiving membership. All groups with an active Localgiving membership will be automatically eligible for match funding through the campaign.

What For?
The Minister for Civil Society encourages citizens to donate to local good causes through Localgiving’s Grow Your Tenner campaign, which launched yesterday with £245,000 match funding from government

Local Charities Day will put small, local charities and community groups into the spotlight, helping them thrive and demonstrate the great work they do in their areas.

In the lead up to Local Charities Day on 16th December, government is providing match funding for Localgiving’s ‘Grow Your Tenner’ campaign.

The Office for Civil Society is also contributing £5,000 in match funding for the #GiveMe5 campaign which will run on Local Charities Day, giving people another opportunity to get involved and support charities in their area (see weblink below)..

Matching conditions: One-time donations made to a charity via Localgiving during the campaign will be matched pound-for-pound by up to £10. Monthly Direct Debit donations set up to a charity on Localgiving during the campaign will be matched by up to £10 a month for the first 3 months. After the 3 month matching period Direct Debit donations will continue, but will no longer be matched. It is the responsibility of the donor to cancel their Direct Debit donation should they wish to do so.

Supporter limits: Each supporter may claim up to £10 of match funding via one-time donations per charity they choose to support. This can be via one donation of £10 or more, or several smaller donations that add up to £10 in total. In addition, each supporter may set up one Direct Debit donation to each charity they wish to support through the campaign. No more than one Direct Debit may be set up per individual to each charity. Every supporter may support as many charities as they wish via both one-time and monthly donations and have their donation(s) matched in accordance with these conditions whilst match funding is available.

How Much?
The Office for Civil Society has provided £245,000 in match funding to boost ‘Grow Your Tenner’, bringing the total match funding available for local charities participating in the campaign to £345,000. This money will match one time donations from the public by up to £10 and monthly direct debits by up to £10 for the first three months. This year they will be matching one-time donations made to Localgiving members by up to £10 and regular monthly donations by up to £10 a month for the first three months.
The total match fund for this year's Grow Your Tenner is £345,000! This means each charity will have the chance to benefit from up to £2,500 of match funding: £1,000 from one-time donations and £1,500 from Direct Debits.

Deadline
Start date and time: 10am on Tuesday 18th October 2016. Please note that donations made before 10am will not be matched.
End date and time: 5pm on Thursday the 17th November 2016 or when the match fund runs out (whichever comes first).

A cause for celebration: extra £4.1 million available

by Big Lottery Fund

In early July the Big Lottery launched Celebrate, a funding programme offering communities the chance to hold one off events or activities which celebrate their local community.

We have been overwhelmed by the popularity of Celebrate. Since it launched the Big Lottery received over 1,300 applications across the UK already.

Due to the huge success we have allocated an extra £4.1 million of funding to give even more local communities the chance to come together and celebrate.

As we enter this final phase of funding; to build a spread of activity, we are going to be prioritising applications in England which will bring together different communities and generations, are people led and from schools and academies.

Each country is taking a slightly different approach to Celebrate, so please check our website for information relevant to the country you are in.

The type of projects we want to support might celebrate something from your local community’s history or a local hero. Or maybe it’s a chance to bring people together to get to know their neighbours better.

The final deadline for all completed Celebrate applications in all countries is noon, Friday 21 October 2016.

Good luck with your application!

Holiday Grants for Children

The purpose of this scheme is to provide children with a recreational holiday or outing they would not otherwise have the opportunity to access. This means that they will not fund trips where the primary purpose is education. You must make a clear case for the financial need of the individuals attending as well as the organisation applying.

Applications can be made for grants towards a single trip, which could be residential or a day trip, within the UK for children aged 13 and under who are from areas of high deprivation*, are experiencing disadvantage, or who have a disability. They will consider trips for children who live in deprived circumstances within an otherwise affluent area, according to the National Indices for Deprivation, but the case for support must be clearly explained.
Further details can be found here: http://www.henrysmithcharity.org.uk/holiday-grants-for-children.html

The Jane Tomlinson Appeal
The Jane Tomlinson Appeal was first established by Jane Tomlinson CBE in 2006 to stand as her fundraising legacy.

The Appeal looks to support charitable organisations with a focus on children's or cancer related activities, services or operations. Funding will normally be considered for capital and revenue costs for both specific projects and for general running/core costs

Grants are awarded for amounts from £250 to a maximum of £10,000. The awarding of grants will depend on a number of factors including purpose, total funding requirement and potential sources of other funds including, in some cases, matched funding.

Normally one-off grants are awarded but, in exceptional circumstances, a new project may be funded over two or three years, subject to satisfactory reports on progress

The following are examples of areas of work which fall within the Appeal's grant policy:
Capital building / renovation / refurbishment works for residential, nursing, respite care and schools
Play schemes and play therapy schemes
Day and social activity centres including building costs and running costs
Support for families, including respite schemes
Independent living schemes
Support in the community schemes
Hospices
Minibuses
Advocacy projects
Research (cancer or children related illness)
October - Applications to be submitted by 9th September
Applications can be submitted anytime, however applications submitted one month before the trustees meeting in April and October will be considered at the next available meeting.

BBC Children in Need: Small Grants

Children and young people of 18 years and under experiencing disadvantage through:
1. Illness, distress, abuse or neglect
2. Any kind of disability
3. Behavioural or psychological difficulties
4. Living in poverty or situations of deprivation
Projects we fund make differenced in children’s lives that help prevent or overcome the effects of the disadvantages they face. Projects achieve these differences by either working directly with children or seeking to improve their social and physical environments.
In our Small Grants programme we are looking for projects where a relatively small amount of money can make a big difference for children and young people. We are unlikely to fund applications which top up funding for salaries or larger projects where a small grant would only make a marginal impact on its success.

Who can apply?
Not-for-profit organisations that work with disadvantaged children and young people of 18 years and under who live in the UK, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands.
If you currently have a Small Grant you can apply for further Small Grant funding to keep running the same project or for a different project. You will need to be able to provide convincing evidence of the differences our grant has made to the lives of the disadvantaged children and young people you have worked with. Please note you can usually only have one application assessed in any 12-month period.
If you currently have a Main Grant you can also apply for a Small Grant as long as it is for work with a different group of children and young people. Please note you can usually only have one application assessed in any 12-month period.
