Local Charities Day

The Government has announced that Local Charities Day will take place on 16 December 2016. Local Charities Day will celebrate small, local charities and community groups

Eligibility
If you’re a charity, all you need to do is make sure that you have an active Localgiving membership. All groups with an active Localgiving membership will be automatically eligible for match funding through the campaign.

What For?
The Minister for Civil Society encourages citizens to donate to local good causes through Localgiving’s Grow Your Tenner campaign, which launched yesterday with £245,000 match funding from government

Local Charities Day will put small, local charities and community groups into the spotlight, helping them thrive and demonstrate the great work they do in their areas.

In the lead up to Local Charities Day on 16th December, government is providing match funding for Localgiving’s ‘Grow Your Tenner’ campaign.

The Office for Civil Society is also contributing £5,000 in match funding for the #GiveMe5 campaign which will run on Local Charities Day, giving people another opportunity to get involved and support charities in their area (see weblink below)..

Matching conditions: One-time donations made to a charity via Localgiving during the campaign will be matched pound-for-pound by up to £10. Monthly Direct Debit donations set up to a charity on Localgiving during the campaign will be matched by up to £10 a month for the first 3 months. After the 3 month matching period Direct Debit donations will continue, but will no longer be matched. It is the responsibility of the donor to cancel their Direct Debit donation should they wish to do so.

Supporter limits: Each supporter may claim up to £10 of match funding via one-time donations per charity they choose to support. This can be via one donation of £10 or more, or several smaller donations that add up to £10 in total. In addition, each supporter may set up one Direct Debit donation to each charity they wish to support through the campaign. No more than one Direct Debit may be set up per individual to each charity. Every supporter may support as many charities as they wish via both one-time and monthly donations and have their donation(s) matched in accordance with these conditions whilst match funding is available.

How Much?
The Office for Civil Society has provided £245,000 in match funding to boost ‘Grow Your Tenner’, bringing the total match funding available for local charities participating in the campaign to £345,000. This money will match one time donations from the public by up to £10 and monthly direct debits by up to £10 for the first three months. This year they will be matching one-time donations made to Localgiving members by up to £10 and regular monthly donations by up to £10 a month for the first three months.
The total match fund for this year's Grow Your Tenner is £345,000! This means each charity will have the chance to benefit from up to £2,500 of match funding: £1,000 from one-time donations and £1,500 from Direct Debits.

Deadline
Start date and time: 10am on Tuesday 18th October 2016. Please note that donations made before 10am will not be matched.
End date and time: 5pm on Thursday the 17th November 2016 or when the match fund runs out (whichever comes first).
