The National Housing Federation has
published its annual Home Truths report for 2013-14. The report always makes for sober
reading.
This year the report focuses on the impact
of high rents on employed people earning marginal wages. Working people are being forced to rely on
Housing Benefit to meet the costs of housing.
While house prices continue their
relentless rise in London
and the SE other areas of the country have not seen any benefit from recent
economic improvement. This implies a
significant imbalance between north and south. Extreme shortages of homes in London and the south east,
and build rates still significantly below what is required, house prices are
set to continue their upward climb.
Over the course of the next 7 years to
2020, house prices in Berkshire
are projected to increase between 39-54% and private rents to increase around
40%.
